Category: creative DIY cabinet crown molding

Location: Cabinet tops around the house

Time Estimate: Around 3 hours

Most cabinets you’ll find in furniture stores are finished with a simple wood top, even though this creates an unaesthetic space between them and the ceiling. To add a decorative touch to any cupboard unit, use crown molding and spice up the overall look of your kitchen, bathroom, office, or any other room.

List of Materials

  • Crown molding
  • Gusset
  • Wood glue
  • Screwdriver or drill
  • Circular saw
  • Hammer
  • Tape measure
  • Level
  •

Steps to Take in Making a DIY Cabinet Crown

1 Start by installing a gusset on each side of the cabinet top to give the crown molding something stable to stick to.
2 With a circular saw, cut the first piece of crown molding at an angle that matches the gusset.
3 Then, use specialized adhesive to piece together the wood parts and the gusset. To avoid dripping, spread the layer of wood glue evenly with a small brush before applying the molding to the structure.
4 Secure everything into place with a drill, and give the wood glue time to set and dry overnight.
